Adam
Berner , Esq.
Adam J. Berner, J.D., M.A., is a practicing attorney-mediator in the New York City and New Jersey area with offices in Manhattan and Riverdale (Bronx) New York as well as in Teaneck, New Jersey. Having worked in a law firm, specializing in matrimonial and family law, he brings to his collaborative law and mediation practice the experience and familiarity with the law and its alternative processes for resolving disputes. Through providing an array of dispute resolution services designed specifically to fit the needs and goals of his clients, Adam has devoted his professional career to helping individuals and families make better choices in the face of conflict, helping all participants reach informed, satisfying and cost effective resolutions -keeping them out of court.
Adam is a recognized for his service in legal and mediation associations throughout the New York area. He serves on the ADR (Alternative Dispute Resolution) Committee of the Association of the Bar of the City of New York where he served as the Matrimonial Committee liaison. He is an Advanced Practitioner Mediator of the Association of Conflict Resolution (Family Section), an Accredited Mediator of the New York State Council on Divorce Mediation and New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators, and a Certified Mediator at the Manhattan and Brooklyn Mediation Centers. Among other memberships, Adam is a board member of the Family and Divorce Mediation Council of Greater New York where he chairs the Continuing Education Committee and is closely affiliated with the Center for Mediation in Law (East Coast Branch) where he chaired the Professional Education Committee.
In addition to his private practice, Adam is an Adjunct Professor at Cardozo Law School where he teaches General and Divorce Mediation in addition to having taught family law at the law school. Adam is an experienced trainer in mediation and alternative dispute resolution, having trained attorneys, court personnel, law students and corporate staff throughout the New York City area and is recognized as a certified trainer by the New York State Office of Court Administration's Alternative Dispute Resolution Office. He currently serves as the Director of Training at the Dispute Resolution Training Institute for the New York Center for Interpersonal Development. For the past six years Adam has also taught as an Adjunct Professor at Stern College, an undergraduate school of Yeshiva University, teaching law and ethics.
