Joining the New York Association of Collaborative
Professionals
The New York Association of Collaborative Professionals opens its membership to like-minded
lawyers who are interested in providing New York area families
with another dispute resolution process on an annual basis. Our
membership year runs from January 1st – December 31st.
New members agree to meet the following requirements and to complete
the initial training requirements within twelve (12) months of joining
the Group.

2008 NYACP Membership Requirements (Lawyers)
- Annual Dues: $1000;
- Member in Good Standing New York State Bar with Professional
Liability Insurance;
- Five years of Matrimonial Experience;
- Participation in a 2-day Collaborative
Law Training;
- Participation in a 36-40 hour Mediation Training;
- Agreement to sign and abide
by NYACP Participation Agreement;
- Attendance at 7 meetings during 12 month membership
period;
- Continuing Training Requirement (after 1st year of membership):

2008 NYACP Membership Requirements (Financial Professional)
- Annual Dues: $1000;
- NYS Licensed professional (CFP, CPA) in good standing. Other NYS Licensed
Financial Professionals may submit their credentials and apply for membership
on a case by case basis;
- Demonstration via curriculum vitae of background, education and
experience in:
- Financial aspects of divorce;
- Cash management and spending plans;
- Retirement and pension plans;
- Income tax;
- Investments;
- Insurance;
- Property division;
- Individual and family financial planning concepts.
- Participation in a 3-day Interdisciplinary Collaborative Training;
- Participation in a 36-40 hour Mediation Training;
- In addition to the above, sixteen (16) additional hours of education in the
financial fundamentals of NYS Family Law including:
- Divorce procedures;
- Property – valuation and division;
- Pensions and retirement plans;
- Budgeting – income and expenses;
- Child and spousal support;
- Future income projections;
- Financial implications of different settlement scenarios.
- Agreement to sign and abide by NYACP Participation Agreement;
- Agreement to complete IACP Collaborative Practice Survey upon the completion
of a Collaborative case (one professional per case);
- Attendance at 7 meetings during 12 month membership period;
- Continuing Training Requirement (after 1st year of membership):

hours of continuing professional education in programs offered by The Institute
for Divorce Financial Analysts (IDFA)
- Continuing Collaborative Process Training Requirement (after 1st year

- Annual Dues: $1000;
- NYS licensed Mental Health Professional with Professional
Liability Insurance in good standing in one of the following:
- MD – Medical Doctor, Psychiatrist
- PhD – Doctor of Philosophy
- Psy D – Doctorate of Psychology
- LCSW – Licensed Clinical Social Worker
- RSW – Registered Social Worker
- MFT – Marriage and Family Therapist
- Demonstration via curriculum vitae of background, education and
experience in:
- Knowledge of families in transition and family systems theories;
- Knowledge
of and expertise in the stages of family development including the unique challenges
of diversified families and children with special needs;
- Experience with divorce-related
issues and conflict resolution including but not limited to: psychotherapy, mediation,
forensic evaluation and parenting coordinator.
- An understanding of crisis and its impact on the family’s development
with special focus on transitioning the family post-divorce.
- Participation in a 3-day Interdisciplinary Collaborative Training;
- Participation in a 36-40 hour Mediation Training;
- Minimum of 3 hours of Family
Law training; can be component of another training;
- Agreement to sign and abide
by NYACP Participation Agreement;
- Agreement to complete IACP Collaborative Practice
Survey upon the completion of a Collaborative case (one professional per case);
- Attendance
at 7 meetings during 12 month membership period;
- Continuing Training Requirement (after 1st year of membership): Minimum
of 6 hours per year of continuing education directly related to divorce coaching
and collaborative practice.
- Continuing Collaborative Process Training Requirement (after 1st year
of membership):

Professional/Child Specialist)
- Annual Dues: $1000;

- Expertise in children’s emotional and cognitive development;
- Ability
to connect with children of various ages, including adolescents with the knowledge
of how to interpret their verbal and non-verbal communication;
- Since the child
specialist is often asked to assess quickly a child’s
needs as well as assess the family dynamics, it is essential that the child specialist
have extensive experience which may include but not be limited to: play therapist,
child therapist, child evaluator including the ability to do psychological testing
and forensic evaluations.
- Participation in a 3-day Interdisciplinary Collaborative Training;
- Participation
in a 36-40 hour Mediation Training;
- Minimum of 3 hours of Family Law training;
can be component of another training;
- Agreement to sign and abide by NYACP Participation
